With all the things I could be writing about and catching up on, the one thing that keeps coming back and making me giggle is the memory of the principal's speech from Graduation. (Side note: She and I have the same first name - spelled the same way, even - and both have shoulder-length red hair - well, DID: I just got mine cut - which was crazy to work around, because people were always saying my name and asking questions I had no clue about, until I realized the principal was standing right behind me, etc...) At the ceremony she outlined her speech with music ("quoted, not sung"). She used songs from John Mayer (pronounced my-er), Bob Dylan, U2, and a couple of others, finishing with a "popular song that talks about the importance of appreciating the journey, and remembering that it's all about 'the Climb'."
People. At a high school graduation ceremony, the principal quoted MILEY CYRUS. My brain, she is still a-blowin'.

Sounds like the level of music sophistication was much higher at your graduation than the one I attended here at WOU. (I was helping with traffic control.)
The top female undergraduate got up, said she had prepared and practiced her speech over and over for the past four weeks, then decided the night before it was too stale. She didn't feel the "energy" like the first time she wrote the speech, so she decided to throw it away and just improvise her speech during the ceremony. During her unpracticed, rambling address to all her fellow students and their families, friends, coutrymen et al, she made the crowd sing "Row, Row, Row your Boat," in a round, and had no thoughtful metaphor or teaching moment. She simply said she thought that was "so cool."
I can't honestly say I remember ANYTHING about any graduation ceremony I've ever attended, whether for myself or anyone else. But this is one I'll never forget. Maybe THAT was her intent? (Trying to give her SOME credit here.)
